[BOOK REVIEW] Warcross by Marie Lu

Title: Warcross

Author: Marie Lu

My Rating: 5/5 stars

Goodreads summary:

For the millions who log in every day, Warcross isn’t just a game—it’s a way of life. The obsession started ten years ago and its fan base now spans the globe, some eager to escape from reality and others hoping to make a profit. Struggling to make ends meet, teenage hacker Emika Chen works as a bounty hunter, tracking down players who bet on the game illegally. But the bounty hunting world is a competitive one, and survival has not been easy. Needing to make some quick cash, Emika takes a risk and hacks into the opening game of the international Warcross Championships—only to accidentally glitch herself into the action and become an overnight sensation.

Convinced she’s going to be arrested, Emika is shocked when instead she gets a call from the game’s creator, the elusive young billionaire Hideo Tanaka, with an irresistible offer. He needs a spy on the inside of this year’s tournament in order to uncover a security problem . . . and he wants Emika for the job. With no time to lose, Emika’s whisked off to Tokyo and thrust into a world of fame and fortune that she’s only dreamed of. But soon her investigation uncovers a sinister plot, with major consequences for the entire Warcross empire.

My Review:

To say that I was overwhelmed with this book is the understatement of the year. To say that this book fucked me up is another. I’ve read all of Marie Lu’s previous books and they were pretty much on top of my favorite books. After Midnight Star I was scarred, I was quiet uncertain if I should read this but to hell with it, it would be worth it, wouldn’t it? BUT IDK ANYMORE MARIE LU YOU’VE OUTDONE YOURSELF WITH THIS ONE. This is like like Legend all over again but even more so.

The entire time I was reading this book, i dont remember closing my mouth (disgusting right?) I was in awe the entire time. It was beautifully written but that was expected of Marie Lu, I can’t find the exact right words to describe the entirety of it tbh. I’d say this was brilliant, amazing, fantastic and all adjectives synonymous to them still wouldn’t just fit right.

If it were up to me, Marie Lu creates the best heroines, with June Iparis from Legend and Adelina Amouteru from The Young Elites, Emika Chen of Warcross doesn’t fall behind! I LOVE HER SO MUCH THAT’S IT. NO SURPRISE THERE. I SEEM TO LOVE ALL OF HER HEROINES YEAH AND I WOULDN’T BE ASHAMED OF IT. I couldn’t even begin to describe her without bringing up spoilers so I’ll leave you to it.

“I’ve wanted to kiss you, the night I saw you in that white dress”
HOLY SHIIIIIIIIIITTTTT HIDEOOO MY LOVE. HE LITERALLY HAD ME ALL WORKED UP. EMIKA AND HIDEO IS MY NEW FAVE SHIP, OOPS NO ROOM FOR ARGUMENTS.

Side characters? Asher Wing, Hammie and Roshan OH HELL YESSSS!!!! Not much was said about them but I’m still up if they are gonna have their own stories.

As I’ve read previous books of the author, her endings appeal to me as the best endings and this doesn’t disappoint. Marie Lu never seems to disappoint. THE. ENDING. HAS. ME. ALL. OVER. THE. PLACE. MARIE. LU. WHAT. HAVE. YOU. DONE. OHMYGOD. AND I HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL NEXT YEAR FOR THE SECOND BOOK JUST KILL ME ALREADY.
